TV One is joining Florida A&M University in covering the presidential election on Tuesday.

A presidential election night watch party will take place in the campus quadrangle on Election Day at 7 p.m., according to a press release on the FAMU Web site.

The party will be hosted by the Student Voter Coalition and sponsored by Florida State University Student Voter Coalition/Black Student Union Movement along with TV One, a national cable network targeting African Americans.

Katrina Monroe, regional director for TV One, said students have a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the event.

"(Students) have an opportunity to be a part of history in the making," Monroe said. "For TV One it's a huge opportunity to cover the election as its part of our programming promise to our viewers to provide them with a unique perspective they can't get anywhere else."

The network will feature cut-in shots of the FAMU campus from 7 p.m. until midnight, while a FAMU advanced TV news class will produce a half-hour show at 11 p.m. on Cable Channel 20.

Brent Hatchett, a 21-year-old Detroit native, will be a campus reporter for TV One on Tuesday.

"To be in a position where we could possibly witness the first African American president of the United states, you want to be able to look back and tell your kids that you were on FAMU's campus witnessing [it]" Hatchett said.
